Why Mobility is Key for a Sustainable Future Society and what the Youth is Expecting

Katja Diehl

Too often, when we talk about the absolutely necessary mobility turnaround, panels, media contributions and projects get lost in technologies that are in part not even fully developed yet, but suggest that waiting for them is firstly worthwhile and secondly does not require action today. Katja Diehl sees things completely differently.

In her book "Autokorrektur - Mobilität für eine lebenswerte Welt" (Car Correction - Mobility for a Livable World), she pursues her thesis that the transport turnaround must above all be thought of close to the people and their needs. Otherwise, marginalised groups, among others, will continue to have no other means of transport than the car - even though they want to act in a climate-friendly way. Why? Because they lack adequate alternatives that are safe, affordable, available and accessible.

That is why it is imperative that diversity gets a seat at the table of decisions in the mobility transition. Which will be incredibly enriching and accelerate sustainable change - for the good of all and not just - as is currently the case - for the good of a so-called majority society. In her presentation, Katja Diehl whets the appetite for this kick-off.
